Registration and submission of communication now closed
We have received 93 propositions of communications on various subjects concerning the deformation of the lithosphere.
We'll now finalize the detailed workshop program and will send it in early-mid January.
We plan to have 36 talks organized into 6 half day sessions, and 57 posters spread over two one-day sessions each. Additionally, we'll have social events on the evenings of January 12th (icebreaker) and 13th (dinner). Stay tuned. We hope to have a great workshop!
A WORKSHOP IN MEMORY OF PAUL TAPPONNIER
In December 2023 Prof. P. Tapponnier passed away. He was certainly one of the main geologists of his generation. Since the 80's he made a series of fundamental discoveries about the processes presiding at the deformation of the lithosphere at different scales of space and time. If he is mostly well known for his work about deformation of Asia, during his career in fact he has led projects in many different places around the world, including Asia indeed, but also the Mediterranean basin, the Afar and Red Sea, or the Caribbean.
Today he has left a major contribution to the understanding of the processes governing the deformation of the lithosphere, but many controversies are still pending and his work has open numerous doors to new questions that need to be addressed in the future.
This workshop aims at presenting the state of the art and future directions pertaining to the deformation of the lithosphere at all scales of space and time. It will take place in Paris from February 12 to 14, 2025.
Organization of the workshop
The workshop will be held in Paris from February 12 to 14. We will begin with an opening session at the Académie des Sciences on the morning of the 12th, followed by five half-days at the Institut de Physique du Globe de Paris. We'll have time for about 35 talks, half given by invited speakers (see list below), the other half selected from the submitted contributions. Plus there will be plenty of space for poster presentations. For practical reasons and to allow for lively scientific interactions the maximum number of participants will be 120. There will be no registration fee but registration is mandatory to attend the workshop.
The registration and the call for scientific contribution will be open from October 14th to November 30th, 2024. You will have to register first, then to submit your contribution (title, abstract, etc). When registering don't forget to ask for an invitation letter if you need one for, e.g., visa application.
When submitting a contribution, you will be able to choose between poster and talk. Keep in mind that due to the limited number of time slots, your choice for a talk will not necessarily be honored. In any case, you will be able to present a poster.
Invited speakers: A. Al-Afifi (KAUST), J.P. Avouac (Caltech), W. Behr (ETH), R. Bilham (CIRES), M. Brunel (U. Montpellier), M.L. Chevalier (CAGS), E. Hill (NTU), C. Karakas (SLB), G.
